Disconnection 1-5, 2015

Disconnection is a series of photos of one of my many childhood homes.  With this series, I'm attempting to revive past memories and reconnect with a place that I no longer have access to. I do this by photographing the house in which I have lived for the longest period of time.
All photos taken with medium format C41 film.

Reconnection, 2015

Reconnection is a large scale (approximately 6'2" x 2'6", installed) cross-stitch embroidery of a hibiscus plant sewn on the window screen of the front door of the house from the Disconnection series. The hibiscus is a flower that is representative of all my cultural backgrounds (Puerto Rican, Okinawan and Hawaiian). I reinstalled the screen into the door and photographed it to metaphorically reconnect myself with the house and my past.
