bio
Evelynn Aponte lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2015, she received her B.A. in Studio Art with a focus in painting and photography from Mills College in Oakland, CA. Her work has been shown in various shows throughout the Bay Area and Los Angeles. Though she has a background in multiple mediums, her main focus for the past decade has been film photography.

Evelynn's work is rooted in memory and the quiet power of place. Being Okinawan, Hawaiian, Puerto Rican, and Chinese, she is naturally drawn to the layers of history and resilience that shape diasporic life. Having moved frequently due to her father’s military service, she developed a deep sensitivity to place—how it is created, remembered, and carried with us.
Her work centers on home and family, not always in the traditional sense, but as a feeling or presence that lingers long after we’ve left. She focuses on the spaces we inhabit, the objects we hold onto, and the traces of daily life that carry our histories.
Through still life, interiors, landscapes, and old family photographs, she explores how culture lives in the everyday—what is preserved, what evolves, and what fades. Her work serves as a way of honoring the beauty and complexity of being mixed, carrying many lineages, and finding home not in one place, but in many.
